Why a Post Graduate Year at Tilton School Can Be Your Best Academic Decision

Gabby ’26 with her advisor, Mr. Goodwin
For Gabby ’26, choosing to return to Tilton for a postgraduate year wasn’t about hesitation — it was about gratitude, growth, and a sense of belonging. Over Gabby’s four years on the Hill, it has become more than just school; it has become home.

While not a singular moment sparked this decision, one important relationship helped Gabby believe in her potential and helped shape her decision to return to the Hill for another year.

During her four years at Tilton, she has had the same advisor, Mr. Goodwin. She explained, “he has helped me throughout my time here and has always been incredibly supportive. Whether it was hockey, academics, or personal challenges, he has consistently been there for me. He has helped me reach my full potential, always reminding me I can do better and do more. I will carry this with me for the rest of my life.”

When Tilton says “the people make the place,” it is certainly true when it comes to Gabby’s experience. While coming in as a student-athlete, she has developed skills that have allowed her to grow in ways she never thought she could. Whether it has been on the ice, in the classroom, or in ceramics class, she has grown academically and personally, learning how to manage her time, advocate for herself, and step outside her comfort zone.

Her decision to return for another year after being a four-year member of the Tilton community shows not only her commitment to her personal growth but also a desire to give back to a community that has given her so much.

“During my time here at Tilton, growth has come in many ways,” Gabby shared. “Years from now, I hope this fifth year represents a time when I chose growth over comfort and invested in myself. I want it to be remembered as a year that helped shape me into a stronger student, athlete, and person before taking the next step in my journey.”

This fifth year will mark a meaningful chapter — one where Gabby trusts the process and invests in herself before she takes the next step toward her future at Assumption University in the Fall of 2027.
