Wondering what to bring with you to boarding school?

Here’s a list of items to pack when moving to boarding school:

1. Formal Attire

A long-time tradition of Tilton School is formal dinners. Once a month, faculty and students gather in formal attire for a special meal. Attendees are expected to adhere to appropriate formal behavior and have meaningful interactions with peers and faculty members (Additional packing item: steamer!).

2. Printed Photos of Home and Family

Living away from your home and family can be challenging. Pictures of friends and family members can help relieve homesickness as well as add some decor to your dorm room.

3. Extra Storage

Dorm room closets aren’t always the most spacious. It’s helpful to pack storage containers that can fit underneath your bed to store out-of-season clothing and other personal belongings.

4. Blackout Curtains

Dorm rooms typically only include blinds which don’y always keep out sunlight. For weekends or days you have a free period, blackout curtains help optimize sleep.

5. Bathroom Shower Caddy

In dorms with communal bathrooms, shower caddies are a lifesaver. It’s helpful to keep all your toiletries in the same place and have something to carry them from your room to the bathroom.
