The boarding school experience has something for everyone.

There are many reasons to attend boarding school and the experience has something to offer for all types of students. Here are a few of our favorites!

1. Independence

This skill is important to master and living away from home is a great opportunity to practice. From doing their laundry to organizing their schedule to keeping a tidy room, learning at Tilton goes far beyond the classroom and provides essential skills for life beyond the Hill.

2. Broaden Your Perspectives

Tilton School students generally represent 15 different countries and 20+ states each year. Our diverse student population offers the opportunity to make connections around the globe and gain empathy and understanding for the world around us. In addition to learning on campus, our students also take their learning abroad on school-sponsored trips.

3. Lifelong friendships

We like to say the people make the place. For many of our students and alumni, the people also make the experience. Teammates, roommates, and classmates quickly become like a second family, and boarding school friendships last long after graduation.

4. Preparation for College

With a combination of academic rigor and personalized learning, Tilton prepares its students for life beyond high school. Boarding school graduates typically report feeling more prepared for college and beyond.

5. Get Pushed Outside of Your Comfort Zone

Moving to a new town, state, or country that is foreign to you isn’t easy, but it’s impressive. For a student who has never attended boarding school, this lifestyle can be daunting. This is where kids learn social maturity and self-advocacy.

6. Smaller Class Sizes

With a student body of approximately 200, our student-to-faculty ratio is 6:1. This means more one-on-one attention, personalized feedback from faculty, and more opportunity for individualized learning.

7. Strong Athletic Programs

Tilton is a destination for athletic opportunities as much as academic opportunities. With access to high-quality facilities and dedicated coaches, kids come to boarding school to thrive on the court, field, rink, and course.
