Frequently Asked Questions: Financial Aid

Affording independent school is a big conversation. Tilton offers several options, including need-based Financial Aid, Merit Scholarships, and Education Loans. See some of the most frequently asked questions about our financial aid process below.

All applicants, including international students, are welcome to apply for financial assistance through CLARITY, our financial aid partner. Please follow the instructions through the CLARITY platform to be certain all required information and documentation are submitted.

CLARITY will process your financial aid application, employing a financial methodology that is all-encompassing (including income/assets/expenses), to determine the estimated “Suggested Family Tuition.” It can take up to seven business days for the verification process to complete through CLARITY allowing time for the IRS to provide the required income and tax documentation.

While we work conscientiously and diligently in an effort to offer financial assistance to those eligible, due to budgetary limitations we are not always able to meet the true demonstrated need of each family.

In the case of divorced/separated parents, both households need to complete a Clarity application. These will appear as two separate filings under one student umbrella. Any exceptions will need to be approved by the Financial Aid Coordinator.

All financial aid information is kept confidential within the Financial Aid Committee. Once financial packages are released, it is the expectation that families will also honor this confidentiality.

It is only necessary to complete one Clarity application per family regardless of the number of children applying.

There is no consequence to applying for financial assistance as admission decisions are made need-blind and completely separate from the financial aid process.

There are multiple payment options available and are indicated on the Enrollment Agreement.

Tilton School “locks” the financial package for the continued subsequent years of enrollment provided the student remains in good standing and the re-enrollment deposit is submitted by the re-enrollment deposit deadline.

Tilton School does not offer athletic scholarships for any sport.

All applicants are considered for merit scholarships regardless of need. There is nothing extra to be done as the review for merit is done at the time of the review for admission.
